it just happens...

A spontaneous and unsolicited thought about decluttering.

I have come to realize decluttering is a natural phenomenon, no need to take a course or stress over it for it will happen fluently, at least it is for me.

It seems I needed everything when I was raising my children. I needed things to help me cook, to help me clean, to put in lunch boxes and stuff in backpacks. I needed things for cuts and scrapes, crafts and baking, toys and books…on and on for nearly 30 years, whew! Thankfully, I rarely was without any little thing my family needed, but now, there remain ‘inconvenient’ remnants of those days of necessity. I have dubbed them ‘clutter’…but I am careful to distinguish them from the special reminders and keepsakes that I will always treasure and that will remain in attics and cubbyholes forever! LOL.

I have read the self-help rumble on social media, the unrealistic mechanisms of decluttering, etc., but I am discovering, through a natural evolution, most of that ‘advise’ is not practical or needed (a lot is marketing)…Decluttering, at least for me, has become a natural process…it happens with time and age.

First, I have left behind the desire to shop. I am not necessarily happy about that; shopping was fun, but now, it is more of a chore that I easily can talk myself out of; I am much more mindful of the things I bring into my house.

I have also become less enthusiastic about dusting and cleaning….more stuff causes more of the above, so less is better.

Finally, many of the things retained here have had their lives, they are perhaps broken or just not needed anymore, so they need to be donated or tossed.

In conclusion, these three mentioned occurrences result in a natural state of decluttering…like aging, it just happens. ps
